My Story

Our mission

Why Me!!!

I can totally relate to how our young people feel.  My life was always challenging growing up in inner city Detroit, MI, but school was my place to dominate.  I completed high school at a College Prep Boarding School in Massachusetts on an academic scholarship and attended Alabama State University on a full softball scholarship. Life was smooth, well so I thought.  You see I was prepared for math test and book reviews, but I was not equipped with tools to handle real-life challenges.   In college things started to shift, at some points I felt completely lost, overwhelmed, and too uncomfortable to discuss my insecurities, struggles, and anxiety.  After all I was an academic scholar, I could surely figure this thing called life out right: so wrong.

The self-confidence that I had built up from experiencing successes at school and playing softball were eventually depleted as life’s challenges piled up.  Real-life hit:  I married young, was a young mother, worked multiple jobs combined with all the other things that life throws at you.  Now looking back, I realize that the world we live in isn’t an easy place to navigate through without feeling good about who you are.  Unfortunately, my attempts to persevere were failing because the foundation of my self-confidence was weak, unnurtured, and influenced by others.   I was existing on fumes, and eventually I hit rock bottom.

I LOST ME and almost lost my LIFE.  Overtime I began experiencing the darkest moments of my life.  I was stuck in disappointment, my dreams, joy, my character, my hope, self-confidence, and self-worth at an all-time low.  I could not recognize the person in the mirror.

The process to heal was long and is ongoing.  It requires applying practical tools consistently, along with grace, forgiveness, and faith! Experience made me understand that those failures throughout the journey were “Lessons”.  With experience comes expertise right, as a twenty-year veteran Educator, Coach, and Mentor I realized that for me to fully impact others, I must be pouring from a full cup.  My cup must overflow with clear purpose.  And so, the journey that saved my life began!

It is my honor to give to others the tools that helped me.
